Thoughts about the day after Thanksgiving

I would like to start with a quote from the past to reflect on this day after Thanksgiving.

"It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favors."
-- George Washington (Thanksgiving Proclamation, 3 October 1789)

My last entry I stated that consumers were responsible for our problems created by the sub-prime loans; this has caused some comment that came back to me verbally (not on the net) that I was wrong, the Government is at fault. I will concede that the Government created the vehicles for this dilemma. But aren’t we responsible for our own actions. We as a people are to quick to jump on every type of Gov. help that becomes available. If we just stop and think of the long term consequences to these actions. A large number of programs designed in the name of providing homeownership for the lower income, are really just entitlements and a way to secure re-election votes for politicians. In the end We The People end up paying the bill.

I had a happy birthday and happy Thanksgiving call from my Brother Walter yesterday. He is in New Orleans working as an Insurance Adjuster on the Katrina mess. Walt was working for FEMA and was one of the first to respond after the storm. After several months there an insurance underwriter offered him a better deal to work for them and he is still there and his wife Reba is also there doing the same thing. Walt has relayed a torrent of horror stories of the waste that is going on. For the people in Ward 9 that are fixing their homes the Government is paying the bill to raise the foundations four feet. Now these same homes were in ten to 14 feet of water. The levies have been repaired to withstand a Category 4. Storm; what will happen when New Orleans has a Category 5. or stronger storm?

For all that are following the mistakes made by the UN, and the mistakes WE as a Nation make following the whims of the UN‘s Global agenda; for example the High Seas Treaty that other nations have signed; which would undermine the sovereignty of the USA; I leave you with another quote.

“But if we are to be told by a foreign Power... what we shall do, and what we shall not do, we have Independence yet to seek, and have contended hitherto for very little.” —George Washington
